Here’s my personal SEO checklist to run through with every post you write.

1. Use a good WordPress SEO plugin like Yoast SEO or RankMath
2. Spend some time on keyword research to make sure you’ve chosen a keyword that’s both relevant and achievable
3. Where possible, use keywords in your subheadings to encourage rich snippets and faster indexing
4. Only use a single H1 header on your page: that’s the title (or headline) at the top
5. Stick to correct header hierarchy, with H2 subheadings and H3 sub-subheadings
6. Don’t keyword-stuff: just use your primary keyword naturally in your text
7. Aim for a good mix of internal and external links (with at least 3–5 external links)
8. Write a great meta description that uses keywords and hooks readers, so they’ll click through
9. Include descriptive alt text for all your images, using keywords in this where possible
10. Make sure your article as a whole is long enough to rank well (usually that means 1,500+ words)
11. Craft an SEO-friendly and compelling meta title (SEO title), making sure it includes your primary keyword
12. Use your keyword for your post’s permalink, minus any little words like “a” or “to”
